Response to Marissa

Yeah, it was intense. It was an altogether intense night. I watched a movie about Nazism in America and it broke my heart even more, so that is why I started writing.

Well, I know one reason why people automatically think that Mexicans are bad people in the South and that's because a lot of Mexicans come and work in the factories and that makes the white people angry because that means that the Mexican people "took" the jobs. I don't agree with that at all, because the country we live in has lots of libraries and any able bodied person who is looking for work in the first place, I don't care if he is purple, should get off his haunches, educate himself and go pursue the job that he wants. But anyway, I do know the whole "job stealing" is big in the South.

In El Paso, there was a TON of gang activity, so there was a lot of racism being fueled by that. There were also a lot of border disputes going on and if you want to know more about that from someone who was living in them, ask me and I'll tell you. There are some more things that I have seen concerning Mexican/White relations, but that is a whole 'nother blog and if you wanna hear about, again, just lemme know and I will get to typing. I know that there are serious issues between American Indians and Mexicans up here, but I'm not quite sure what all of that is about.

But, I guess the best answer to why people automatically assume things about Mexicans is just stupidity and down right laziness. Hatred/fear does go hand in hand with that, sometimes, but the whole hatred/fear thing is another topic that usually runs very deep. So for the sake of time and space, I will talk about stupidity and laziness.

It is much easier to sit and judge than to take the time to form a well researched opinion. Instead of taking the time to get to know someone as a person, people who are plagued with racism decide that the people in question aren't worthy of their time and blow them off and call them all of the horrible, stereotypical names that they can think of, which I will not be mentioning, but you get the picture. One thing that I have noticed is that when people call other people names like the N word, even people of the same race, all they are really doing is fueling the stereotype and teaching people of every other race that is ok to call them the same thing.

I think that stupidity and laziness are really two key reasons for why racism is still so rampant in our culture today. Lets face it, Americans are lazy, and no, it isn't just Americans, but I live in America and know first hand and am included, so I will stick to talking about the culture that I know about. For the most part, Americans just want everything handed to them. We (notice that I say we) don't take the time to learn because it is easier to assume. So we just sit there and assume and form opinions around what we think and most of the time, what we think is on the opposite end of the spectrum from what God thinks. Sadly, this attitude encompasses our entire way of thinking, not just concerning race relations. So there's another solution, start thinking like God thinks, and you will start to see people for people, regardless of what color they are and hopefully you will begin to undergo and major attitude upheavel.

So, Miss, I hope that some of that may have answered your question.
